Mobile shop owners: why you should track every IMEI

20 October 2026 · 1 min read

In a mobile shop, two phones of the same model look identical in the stock count — but they are not the same phone. The IMEI is what makes each one unique. Tracking it protects your money in four ways.

1. Know exactly what is in stock

“10 Galaxy A15 in stock” is not enough. Which ten? When the count doesn’t match, IMEI tracking shows exactly which unit is missing and when it was last seen.

2. Handle returns and warranty without arguments

A customer comes back saying the phone was bought from you. With IMEI records you can see in seconds when it was sold, to whom, and at what price — or that it was never sold by your shop.

3. Stay safe from stolen phones

Keeping a record of which supplier each IMEI came from, and which customer it went to, protects your shop if a phone is ever reported stolen.

4. See the real profit per phone

Each unit can have a different purchase price. Tracking by IMEI means your profit report uses the real cost of the exact phone you sold.

How to start

  1. Scan or type the IMEI when stock comes in (dual-SIM phones have two).
  2. Scan the IMEI again at the time of sale.
  3. Search any IMEI later to see its full history.

PakkaHisaab’s Business plan does this out of the box — IMEI and serial tracking from stock-in to sale and return, with barcode scanning on your phone. Start a free trial.
